Ok so I talk a lot about bulk cooking here on this blog. Let me just say that I honestly do enjoy cooking and yes I do have a lot of time to cook but at the moment my only focus is my work on my business so “cooking” comes a second. My only focus when it comes to my food is something quick and easy. That is why lately I have been trying out bulk cooking and cooking healthy freezer meals for me to consume “on the go”. Glad to say it has been time well spent!

What is Bulk Cooking?

Bulk cooking is basically when you cook enough meals in one day to last for long periods of time. All you have to do is set a day as “cooking day” once a month (or week) and cook some delicious foods. You then store them in your freezer for consuming later.

You now have a freezer full of ready made meals and you don’t have to worry about cooking again for a while! Sounds too easy? Well it is!

I have found a great book titled “Frugal Mom’s Guide To Once A Month Cooking” that makes it all very easy and manageable, I have to say it has been a blessing for me. Let me explain….

Who Is This For?

For anybody really, unless you find great pleasure in cooking every day (which is totally understandable).

You may find bulk cooking very beneficial to you if you’re:

  • looking to save money on food
  • a busy professional
  • feeding a family on a budget
  • the cook of a big family that’s always hungry haha
  • utterly put-off by cooking
  • always working (like me)
  • needing more free time
  • and a lot more…

What Are The Benefits Of This?

The biggest benefits that I experienced since I started bulk cooking is the fact that I don’t have to “worry” about what I’m going to eat. I just know that I always have something ready for me. Sometimes I finish working at 11pm at night and really don’t feel like cooking, dishwashing and all that comes with it. It’s nice to know that I have a meal ready anytime I feel like it.

Also, knowing that you have meals at the ready saves me from ordering take out. Eating out is not very healthy for you and neither your wallet, so this was also a good plus side 🙂

Is it Healthy?

It all comes down to the recipes you are preparing and what you classify as “healthy”; this guide I’m going to be talking about has over 70 freezer meal recipes so there’s a whole lot of choice. Beware though as there are meals that are not good to freeze. Stuff like custards, whole cheeses, fruit yogurts, fish and such items all freeze horribly.

What Are Good Meals To Freeze?

Surprisingly plenty.. Anything from pasta to chicken to beef to pork and soups. These are all meals that are proven to have a long shelf life when cooked and freezed. Thus you’re “guaranteed” the quality of freshness and full flavour for when it’s ready to be consumed.

How To Get Started

If you plan to bulk cook for the very first time, things can be a little difficult and messy LOL. You are planning meals for an entire month!! It’s a big job!

With that much “volume”, you might get carried away as to what to cook, how to cook, in what amount, what ingredients you need and so on. To help you cook perfect meals in the right way the “Frugal Mom’s Guide to Once a Month Cooking” can prove to be immensely beneficial.

The guide comes with step-by-step instructions which are very easy to follow. It includes a 5-step plan for once a month (or week) cooking that will make things really simple for you.

Planning & Keeping Things Organised

Planning is of course important when you are about to cook your entire month’s meals in a single day. This is the reason why Candace Anderson, the creator of this ebook offers forms that will serve as a road map for your cooking sessions.

It will help organize your cooking day, help you with grocery shopping, and also provide a plan for cooking. You can be sure that by following this your cooking day will be absolutely smooth sailing.

This guide has really taught me how beneficial it is to cook in bulk. A lot of money saving gurus all agree that cooking in bulk is a great way to save both time and money, especially when wanting to save money on food.

I hope you found this read enjoyable, feel free to drop me a comment below if you have any questions.
