So I just finished watching a short TED talk from Google guru Matt Cutts (see below). The talk covers a concept that is really easy to understand but a bit harder to implement, basically it’s; work on one simple skill or task everyday for the next 30 days.

Just one skill, one tiny “thing” everyday that will help you achieve a goal you always put off, till now that is.

Now this got me thinking, what we do in the next 30 days to help improve our finances?

What Can You Do In The Next 30 Days To Improve Your Finances?

Here are some easy and simple habits you can implement for the next 30 days to help you save money:

  • Walk or bike to work.
  • Save $1/$5/$10 a day in a jar.
  • Cook a healthy meal at home and don’t eat out.
  • Cook double so you’ll have your meal ready for the next day.
  • Leave your credit/debit cards at home.
  • Stop impulse buying.
  • Drink only water, for that I suggest a water filter to save even more.
  • Don’t buy anything for 30 days other than the necessities.
  • Cut smoking / alcohol for 30 days.
  • Work on ways to up your income.
  • I would say cut meat from your diet as greens are cheaper but that may be pushing it right? 🙂

That’s just some of the ideas of what you can try going for, I’m sure there are countless others!!

Ok so saving $1 a day won’t make you rich but it’s a start. Experts agree that 30 days of practicing a habit is enough to make it stick.

What if it stick to a year? What effects will that have on your future?

Like any other goal; money saving and personal finance is tough to tackle and you have to be in it for the long haul of things but taking the first step is crucial to your success!

Personally, I’m going to try and cut chocolate out of my diet for 30 days but I have to be honest I’m going to start it after the holidays. LOL!  Say the second of January? I’m gonna mark my calendar and let you know how I’m getting along on my twitter feed.

So have you decided what you wish to do?

As I said, try to make it simple so you stick with it. Also don’t take up two task, just one will do. Do the other one in the next 30 days. Baby steps here!

Keep in mind that the next 30 days WILL pass, that’s a guarantee, you now have to see if you’re up for the challenge or not.
